We are seeking a hands-on Controller to support a fast-growing organization with expanding and increasingly complex operations. This role is a key member of the business operations team, responsible for financial reporting, tax compliance, job costing, and cash flow management.

Key Responsibilities
Tax & Compliance
- Manage sales tax filings across multiple states using Avalara
- Oversee business registrations for sales tax, income tax, and remote employees
- Coordinate federal, state, and Canadian tax filings with external advisors
- Support quarterly estimated tax payments and year-end tax preparation
- Identify and apply for applicable tax credits and incentive programs
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and maintain monthly financial reporting packages
- Monitor cash flow, accounts receivable, and accounts payable
- Track overhead expenses, including billable vs. non-billable labor
- Manage project accounting and job close-out reporting
- Ensure accuracy of financials through month-end close review and reconciliation
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Lead process improvement initiatives to streamline financial operations
- Support strategic decisions related to accounting systems, banking, and financial tools
- Prepare subcontractor financial reporting for government contracts
Operations & Team Support
- Provide hands-on support to accounting functions including GL, AP, AR, and reconciliations
- Assist with job costing and financial performance analysis of projects
- Provide coverage for accounting staff during peak periods or absences
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in accounting, forecasting, and job costing
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP
- Experience with financial reporting, reconciliations, and tax compliance
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation
- Experience in a high-growth company or startup environment
- Background in construction, contracting, or job costing environments
- Experience with system implementations or software conversions
- Exposure to contract or vendor negotiations
